QUESTIONS TO OUR BENCHTOP TEMPERATURE CONTROLLERS
On this page you will find detailed answers to the most frequently asked questions related to our benchtop temperature controllers.
What are the laboratory temperature controllers of the BTC-LAB series used for?
The BELEKTRONIG laboratory temperature controllers of the BTC-LAB series serve the purpose of professional control of heating and Peltier elements.
Why are the BELEKTRONIG temperature controllers always the first choice for controller solutions in the lab?
Their up to 0.001°C accurate temperature measurement in combination with the extended PID algorithm and the high-resolution power output allows precise adjustment even of the smallest temperature deviations. All units of the series are built compact and robust, and offer high operating comfort and numerous additional functions.
What are the key features of the benchtop temperature controllers of the BTC-LAB series?

How can I find suitable values for the PID parameters?
With a little try and experience, you can relatively fast find suitable values by varying the parameters with trial and error.
In addition, our PC software BTC Soft contains an algorithm for the automated determination of PID control parameters.
The premium version of the BTC Soft also offers extensive possibilities for simulating the setup which is connected to the temperature controller. If the properties of this setup are characterized, the PID parameters can be quickly determined with the software. These values can be used to simulate and optimize the expected temperature profile prior to the measurement.
Why is it possible to set different sets of PID parameters for heating and cooling?
The heating rate of Peltier elements is significantly higher than the cooling rate. If a temperature controller provides only one set of PID parameters, one can optimize the temperature control of either to the heating process or to the cooling process. So you can optimize the control, for example, to heat a plate from room temperature to 37 ° C. While afterwards cooling the plate from 37°C down to e.g. 10°C, it will show a significantly different overshoot or undershoot compared to the heating process.
To solve this problem, we have extended and optimized the control algorithm of our temperature controllers of the BTC series in that way, that different sets of parameters can be set for heating and cooling.
Are the laboratory temperature controller BTC-LAB also available with other output voltages than 27 V?
Voltages smaller than 27 V can be set directly by the adjustable limits of the output voltage. On request, we also manufacture devices with other maximum voltage values (maximum 36 V) as custom-made products.
Is it also possible to use the measured temperature values of Sensor 2 for temperature control?
Yes, this is easily possible by setting the “primary” sensor. The primary sensor is set via the PC software BTC Soft in the are “Settings” – “PID controller” – “Advanced”.
